Crafted by nature
Imagined by artist Steve Lloyd
I am fascinated by the shapes, textures, and colors of wood transported by currents and tides, then cast ashore by the sea. I use Alaska driftwood to create abstract sculptures, evoking the forces of life, time, sunlight, and the Pacific Ocean.
Working with driftwood and creating sculptures that highlight its unique characteristics, I have learned to look at trees, rocks, and beaches in new ways.
The patterns visible on the wild shores of Alaska find their way into my art.
The Art
The Alaska driftwood sculptures that I design and create are unlike any other.
Nature’s relentless forces do much of the work—saltwater, sun, storms, and time shape and color the driftwood.
I craft unique abstract sculptures, respectfully allowing the wood to suggest its most beautiful form and finish.

The Artist
I was born and raised in Alaska and still live on the Pacific Northwest coast.
My travels along rugged Alaska coast, searching for lost shipwrecks and abandoned mines, allow me to experience the beauty and diversity of driftwood carried here by the sea.
For over a decade, I have collected Alaska driftwood and used it to create unique works of art that honor this beautiful natural material.
Alaskan Shores
Alaska driftwood by itself is often quite beautiful.
Still, the sea cannot form geometrical shapes or create recognizable creatures of land or sea. Nature forms the living tree, sculpting and polishing it once it becomes driftwood.
It is left to me to reinterpret the material in a way that highlights the uniqueness of each piece of wood while emphasizing its natural beauty.
